Cost: Free admission for exhibit; special events may have a fee
Ages: 2 exhibits are fine for all ages (2010 Original Art: Celebrating the Fine Art of Children’s Book Illustration, Summer Illustration Art Academy Exhibition), the other 2 may not be appropriate for kids.

The Honorable Mayor Michael Bloomberg, on behalf of the City of New York, will be proclaiming the second week of November as Illustration Week. A representative from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs will be presenting the Proclamation during the Summer Illustration Art Academy Reception at the Society of Illustrators on Friday, November 5 at 5pm.

A retrospective of Fernanda Cohen's commercial and personal work.


Friday, November 5, 5-8pm
Summer Illustration Art Academy Exhibition and Reception
A gallery opening at the Society of Illustrators featuring the works of students from the Summer Illustration Art Academy; an NEA sponsored program that took place in July in collaboration with the NYC Parks and Recreation Department After School Program.
(Note: This may not be an open event, as a RSVP was required by Oct. 20th)

The Universe of Gary Baseman
At the Society of Illustrators
Baseman will talk about his work process, the rich life he's built for his memorable characters, and how he's revolutionizing our understanding of art--yet again--by transitioning from canvas and toys into live performances that engage his audience beyond its expectations.

Tuesday, November 9, 6:30-9:30pm
Illustrators Sketch Night at the Society of Illustrators
Illustrators will pose alongside professional models as the Dining Room transforms into a large sketch studio. The live jazz will be performed by The Half-Tones featuring Joe Ciardiello and Barry Blitt, award winning illustrators who are also professional musicians. Open to the public.
$15/$7 students

Festival of Fame Speakers Series: Matthew Carter and Christoph Niemann
At the Art Director's Club
Matthew Carter and Christoph Niemann will speak with Nicholas Blechman on the occasion of their indiction into the ADC Hall of Fame this year.
