Xian Zhang’s rising international status in the conducting world comes as a major feat. She became the first woman to conduct the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden in its main hall in Germany in 2008, and she was the first woman to lead any Italian symphony orchestra when the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi appointed her as music director in 2009. On Monday, Zhang will conduct the Julliard Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall. The show will include Anton Webern’s Passacaglia, Op. 1, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola, K. 364, and Gustav Mahler’s reorchestration of Robert Schumann’s fourth symphony. Tickets are free and available at the Juilliard box office. The standby line forms at 7pm, an hour before the start of the concert.
