In The Rover, everyone dresses up in costume during the festive days of Carnevale (Mardi Gras). Hidden behind their masks, the men drink and draw their weapons at the slightest provocation, while the women are given the freedom to say and act as they please. Aphra Behn, the first professional female playwright in the English language, lets us see what happens when women are freed from societal conventions to live their lives on their own terms without consideration of social class or fortune!

New York Classical Theatre
, the company that brought William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Prince of Denmark to life last season, presents The Rover in their signature staging style, panoramic theatre, transforming the entire World Financial Center into the wild world of Carnevale in 17th-Century Naples, Italy.
