Get ready for an energetic, interactive show at this year’s Bronx Family Day! Brought to you by SummerStage Kids presented by Disney, this special event will have families wowed by circus tricks and acrobatics and then on their feet for a memorable dance party experience! Families will also have the opportunity to participate in face painting, craft workshops and free sports lessons including golf workshops! This is sure to be an entertaining day you would not want to miss!

The Hell on Wheel Unicycle Club will perform unicycle stunts and maneuvers on their custom-built obstacle course, and will also offer a free “Learn-to-Unicycle” area for ages 6 and up.

David Graham and Tobin Renwick, are a high energy acrobatic, juggling and comedy duo that make up The Red Trouser Show. They have been performing in circuses and theaters, and busking all over America and internationally since 2000. Having been called “a spectacular and unique act” by the Midnight Circus, as well as a group of “amazing acrobats” by ABC News, their performances are entertaining for all ages.

Since 1995, The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus has traveled the world, bringing its unique hybrid of vaudeville, circus, Wild West shows, burlesque and sideshow to hundreds of thousands of people. The company has produced innumerable cabaret shows, custom performances, and all-ages productions in addition to sophisticated adult shows. Bindlestiff also produces the NYC Unicycle Festival, yearly held on Governor’s Island over Labor Day Weekend. Today, Bindlestiff presents The Hell on Wheel Unicycle Stunt Show, in collaboration with the Chatham Unicycle Club of Columbia County, NY.

Little Club Heads has revolutionized the idea of “family time” by providing a dance party experience for children aged 12 months to 10 years old and their parents. At their events, parents can socialize while children have an opportunity to mingle, dance, and stay fit. Dip your toe in New York City's rich maritime past during the Fourth Annual North River Historic Ship Festival at Hudson River Park's Pier 25, where educational tours and rides will take place on historical boats from June 1 through July 1. On June 29, tour the tugboat Pegasus, as well as a railroad barge and a decommissioned steamship that serve as waterfront museums. Return the following day and climb aboard the Pegasus or the fire boat John J. Harveya for a 45-minute ride on the Hudson. Tickets are free, but space is limited. You can reserve them in advance or pick them up on a first-come, first-served basis at the North River Historic Ship Society tent starting at 11:30am.

Founded in 1983 by Coney Island USA, the not-for-profit arts organization that also produces the Coney island Circus Sideshow, the Mermaid Parade pays homage to Coney Island's forgotten Mardi Gras which lasted from 1903 to 1954, and draws from a host of other sources resulting in a wonderful and wacky event that is unique to Coney Island.

The Mermaid Parade celebrates the sand, the sea, the salt air and the beginning of summer, as well as the history and mythology of Coney Island, Coney Island pride, and artistic self-expression. The Parade is characterized by participants dressed in hand-made costumes as Mermaids, Neptunes, various sea creatures, the occasional wandering lighthouse, Coney Island post card or amusement ride, as well as antique cars, marching bands, drill teams, and the odd yacht pulled on flatbed.

Each year, a different celebrity King Neptune and Queen Mermaid rule over the proceedings, riding in the Parade and assisting in the opening of the Ocean for the summer swimming season by marching down the Beach from the Boardwalk, cutting through Ribbons representing the seasons, and tossing fruit into the Atlantic to appease the Sea Gods. In the past, David Byrne, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Queen Latifah, Ron Kuby, Curtis Sliwa, Moby, David Johansen and Harvey Keitel have graced our shores, presiding over the assembled masses.

The Parade is followed by the Mermaid Parade Ball, a post-parade gathering where costumed parade participants can get together with each other and parade spectators to listen to live music, enjoy cocktails and watch burlesque and sideshow acts performed by some of New York City's hottest performers.

Each evening from Wednesday, June 13 through Friday, June 15, two step teams will battle each other on the High Line. On Saturday, the festival culminates in a stepping workshop followed by a showcase performance.

Stepping is an energetic and precise form of group movement that uses a mixture of spoken word, footsteps, and handclaps to transform the participants’ bodies into rhythmic instruments. The history of stepping is rooted in the competitive schoolyard song and dance rituals of historically African American fraternities and sororities.

FTC is designed for those who want to compete head to head, using a sports model. Fela’s Queens explore African history and culture through the study of contemporary musicians and the dances that accompany the various musical styles.

A performer from The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus provide atmospheric entertainment today.
