12/1/11 TEDxWomen Event Live Online or at Paley Center

TEDxWomen--produced and curated by the Paley Center for Media and hosted by Pat Mitchell--is a one-day bicoastal event on Dec. 1, 2011, at the Paley Center in NY + LA. It will continue the global conversation that started at TEDWomen in 2010 about how women and girls are re-shaping the future.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxWomen, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxWomen event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

Watch the TEDxWomen Event Live Online Tomorrow!

For those unable to attend at the Paley Center locations in NY or LA, or attend one of the 100-plus local TEDxevents being held across the globe, you can watch the day's events via Livestream at:
http://www.livestream.com/tedxwomen

The schedule is below (subject to change), with the first session starting on December 1, 2011, at 11:00am ET/8:00am PT.

We hope you will participate in the conversation via Twitter, using hashtag: #TEDxWomen.

For more information and extended speaker bios, go to http://tedxwomen.org.

Her deep, honeyed voice intones what she calls “holistic new African soul”—a fusion of Jazz, funk, soul, gospel, and African music. Creating music that pulsates with the vitality of different nations, Somi shares a new musical tradition of transnationalism.

Research indicates that parents need as much guidance as their children when it comes to navigating the college admissions maze. As their children transition into young adulthood, parents grapple with the changing levels and types of support the students need before, during and after the actual college process.

How much support is too much? To what extent should I...(you fill in the blank)...help select schools or majors, assist in the scholarship search, continue to apply pressure or back off? How will I survive my child leaving me and going away to college? Parents who have sent older offspring to college and who are now, once again, grappling with today’s college admissions landscape will especially appreciate this program.

Lissette Velez is a N.Y.C.D.O.E presenter/facilitator with 8+ years experience in guiding families through the college admissions process. She is also the parent of a successful college graduate and is now going through the process with her youngest child! Lissette provides professional advice tempered with the wisdom of one who has successfully gone through and is currently going through, yet again, the college admissions process.
