Science takes center stage as the 4th annual IckyFest Weekend returns to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum on Saturday, November 19th and Sunday, November 20th from 10am–5pm each day. Boasting a variety of science-based activities, IckyFest is designed to educate children about naturally occurring events that are usually considered gross, but are also fascinating. During this unique weekend festival, kids become grossologists--scientific experts on all things slimy, yucky, and downright disgusting. Create your very own snotty slime, touch creepy creatures, smell pungent cheese, study the New York City sewers, and more! Children of all ages are encouraged to attend. All IckyFest Weekend programs are included with general Museum admission.
Ickyfest Events!
Sewer in a Suitcase from the Center for Urban Pedagogy
12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm for 6 and up
New York City alone uses over ONE BILLION gallons of water every day. What happens to it after we’ve used it? Inside this special suitcase is a colorful working model of a New York City streetscape. Just add water to the building supply tank, mix in some “terrible pollution,” and find out where our dirty water goes on a sunny day. Pour water onto the street and make it rain! Find out what happens when it rains a little, and when it rains a lot. Follow the journey that water takes beyond the drain, and learn just how icky New York’s sewers are!
