This annual event features more than 30 Brooklyn-based authors and illustrators who stop by to read from their freshly published works for youth. Kids hear stories like Tad Hills’s Duck and Goose (in which the title characters mistake a spotted ball for an egg), listen to John and Wendy’s Periwinkle Smith and the Twirly, Whirly Tutu, and learn what happens when Henry finds a multipurpose headpiece in New Yorker cartoonist Paul Hoppe’s The Hat. Tweens can gather for excerpts from Michael Buckley’s new series NERDS: National Espionage, Rescue and Defense Society, while antsy visitors who’ve tired of listening can participate in art activities. The fair features storybooks, picture books, and graphic novels and will include author readings, a game for children, and cafĂ© service. Sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings.
