How does a sea urchin move? What does a starfish eat? Discover how diverse life really is under the sea by exploring animals up close and personal.
W.O.R.D. UP! Words of Real Distinction: Reverend Al Sharpton

A new reading series that celebrates the art of literature while building character, community, and camaraderie. W.O.R.D. UP! presents a unique opportunity for lifelong learners to share and enjoy the power of literacy. Join us for a special reading and meet & greet by Reverend Al Sharpton. Special admission tickets are required for entry to the W.O.R.D. UP! Reading Series ($5 per person plus general admission). Due to popular demand we recommend purchasing tickets in advance at the Museum’s admissions desk.
Advance tickets are available as of January 29 and will be sold on a first-come, first served basis.
Transfiguration Song & Dance Group
1:00pm, for All ages
Join us as we ring in Chinese New Year with the Transfiguration Song & Dance Group. This talented group of 27 Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will perform a Chinese traditional Tibetan Tambourine Dance and New Year celebration songs (sung in Cantonese and Mandarin) under the guidance of Teachers Lili, Tai, John, Kitty and Rosa. Dressed in traditional Chinese costumes, this wee-little troupe brings “good luck” just in time for the New Year!
Plum Blossoms
1:30pm, for All ages
Bring courage, prosperity, and hope into your home by making a plum-blossom work of art like those traditionally displayed in homes during Chinese New Year.
Kitchen Chemistry Series: Fire it Up and Celebrate Chinese New Year
1:30pm, for 6 and up
Join us in our science kitchen as we use common household ingredients to set off ‘fireworks’ in celebration of Chinese New Year.
Chinese New Year Hats
2:30pm, for 5 and under
Ring in the Chinese New Year in style! Create a festive hat to wear during the Chinese New Year celebrations.
