Summer sunsets over the Hudson River are the backdrop for great blues music. Enjoy styles ranging from traditional Delta and rhythm and blues to rock and jazz with a foundation in the blues. Bring family and friends.

July 1: Blues legend and Grammy winner John Hammond returns to Battery Park City, this time with his band, to perform his versions of Delta classics and selections from his 2010 Grammy-nominated release Rough and Tough, his 33rd album.

July 8: Hazmat Modine creates inventive music with the scratchy soul of an old blues record and the high energy of a brass big band. They keep one foot firmly planted in the blues while conjuring up unusual, celebratory music.

July 15: Bill Sims, Jr., veteran blues singer-songwriter, sings with a warm baritone voice and a journeyman’s command of electric and acoustic guitar. Sims composed the music for August Wilson’s "Seven Guitars" and "Gem of the Ocean" and other plays and movies about American roots music.

July 22: Jim Campilongo creates music that floats from gritty blues rock to country twang and jazz, making a singular original musical sound on his trademark Telecaster.

July 29: The Alexis P. Suter Band, led by a rising star with a bass/baritone voice that beautifully weaves talent and raw emotion into powerful gospel-tinged blues.

6pm - 7:30pm

On The Program: The premiere performance of the New York Tubas will consist of an assembly of tubas and euphonia (and no doubt a sprinkling of trombones) directly across the street from Lincoln Center. The resonant sounds of assembled low brass should reverberate throughout the vicinity, infusing harmony into the solstice festivities.

How To Join: Tubas, euphonia, and sousaphones are all welcome! Please contact alangilbert@earthlink.net for details.

Play Hard: The MMNY Corporate Challenge pits VP against manager, assistant against CFO as guitar-slinging office workers from AccentureBloomberg LP, and HBO rock for glory in a battle of the corporate bands.

About The Contest
ArenaEach band will have 30 minutes to rip, shred, rock and "play hard" in the ultimate effort to wow our judges, win a coveted gig that evening at the Arena Event Space (135 W. 41st St, 6pm - midnight), stake their claim as the city's best corporate band, take home a custom handmade guitar from Jarrell Guitars, and bring glory to their company.

When & Where
Noon - 2pm, Bryant Park's Fountain Terrace, Sixth Avenue at 41st St

Drawing their inspiration from classic rock 'n' roll, The Mnemonix are the official house band of Bloomberg. This "hard rockin', fist pumpin', good times havin', take no prisoners band" will play a set likely to include "American Girl" (Tom Petty), "Can't Always Get What You Want" (Rolling Stones), "All Along the Watchtower" (Bob Dylan), and "Can't You See/Born to be Wild" (Marshall Tucker Band/Steppenwolf).
HBO's Firewall represents several departments within HBO, with members ranging from former professionals to avid amateurs. They focus on straight ahead rock and roll, from Elvis to Violent Femmes, and look forward to rocking their "front yard" in Bryant Park.Accenture's high-performance band, Consultants By Day, delivers with songs like "Hard to Handle" (Black Crowes), "Superstition" (Stevie Wonder), and "Won't Get Fooled Again" (The Who).
