The Central Park Conservancy presents the Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theater as part of the third season of the A Clearing in the Forest series in the Children’s Glade.
The Peter Jay Sharp Children’s Glade at the Great Hill, contains a series of small lawns cut out of the woodland edge and connected by numerous winding rustic pathways. Conservancy landscapers designed The Glade to be “a clearing in the forest,” and imagined it specifically as a venue for family programming, which makes it to the perfect spot for an open-air puppet show.
Vit Hořejš, Director of the Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theater, performs a one-man show of three authentic Czech and Slovak fairy tales, “Salt over Gold” (a Princess who values her father only as much as salt, is banished, but returns to save her father when salt disappears), “The Stingy Tailor” (a proud and stingy tailor is taught a lesson by the water spirit, Vodnik) and “Kacha and the Devil” (a shepherd outwits the devil who is pursued by a dance-loving shrew).
Come and enjoy fairy tales about kings, clever village maidens, witches and spirits brought to live by masterly played marionettes.
