Visit Wave Hill for a special Family Art Project on Saturday and Sunday morning, conjure miniature fairy gardens, and learn the mythology of oak trees and magical properties of ferns on a walk through the gardens. All these programs are free with admission to the garden—and admission is free Saturday morning until noon, thanks to the support of Target.

Family Art Project: Fairy Wands and Tiny Houses/Varitas mágicas y casas pequenitas
Ecology Building, 10am−1pm
Put some of nature’s magic into your own enchanted wand. Fashion sticks, leaves and bark into a tiny, fairy-sized dwelling as part of a charmed forest metropolis.
Demonstration: Fanciful Fairy Gardens
On the Grounds, 2pm
Do fairies, gnomes and other magical creatures enjoy gardening? Not so much. But they do love the beauty of a well-design garden! Observe the careful conjuring of miniature, table-top fairy gardens from tiny plants, nuts, rocks and other surprising materials, with Assistant Director of Public ProgramsLaurel Rimmer.

Gentle giant Jim Keyes casts a spell with charmed stories and songs, drawing from different periods and magical worlds. Join us for music and stories that are enchanting. Celtic harp, mandolin and lute.

Fairy cakes and other fun foods are the main attraction at this child-friendly, family brunch, Sunday Brunch is offered by Wave Hill’s exclusive caterer Great Performances. Reservations at 718.549.3200 x395 or by emailing wavehillcafe@greatperformances.com. $22 per person (not including admission to the grounds). Note special children’s pricing in 2010, as Wave Hill celebrates Growing Up in the Garden: Children under 3 free, 3- to 8-year-olds $6.50 and 8- to 12-year-olds $13. Ideal for ages 5 and up and their curious adult companions. Rain or shine, so dress for the weather! Space is limited; advanced registration recommended, online, at the Perkins Visitor Center when you next visit or by calling 718.549.3200 x305. Fee: Free for Wave Hill Members/Non-members $5. Free for NYC Audubon Members with 2-for-1 admission to the grounds.
