A CUNARD ROYAL RENDEZVOUS!
Thursday, January 13, 2011 (Festivities start at 6pm, ending with fireworks at approx 6:40pm)
Cost: Free
For all ages
Cunard’s award-winning luxury ships sail into New York Harbor today for a Royal Rendezvous. Cunard’s three vessels—the Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth, the newest and second largest at nearly 1,000 feet long—will meet for the first time in front of the Statue of Liberty. The massive British vessels recall Titanic grandeur, with ornate theaters, renowned restaurants and a Veuve Clicquot Champagne bar. Cunard will host a press conference onboard the Queen Elizabeth, and the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park offers a three-day, prime-viewing package. But you can see the Rendezvous free, with views from Battery Park, Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Park, The Esplanade or Hudson River Park. Grucci-family fireworks (which have lit up Olympic Games and presidential inaugurations) will conclude the grand event, ensuring the ships go out with a bang.
