Freshly-cut herbs are aromatic, medicinal, and add a wonderful zest of flavor to already delicious meals. And nothing compares to the taste of vegetables you’ve grown yourself! On Tuesday, April 12, Madison Square Park will host Triscuit Home Farming Day for city residents to experience how easy and rewarding it is to farm at home…even if “home” is a studio apartment! As part of the Triscuit Home Farming Movement, this event will empower home farmers to begin growing fresh food.
This special event runs from 11:30am to 6pm and New Yorkers will have the opportunity to start their own “home farm” right in Madison Square Park. New home farmers will be guided through the planting process by planting experts and plant fresh chives to take home. Park visitors can take a Home Farming Kit with them to start planting in their window box, balcony planter, deck, rooftop, or backyard. Attendees can also grow the movement among friends by sending a plantable seed postcard.
At the Home Farm CafĂ©, new farmers can sample Triscuit crackers topped with seasonal ingredients – a perfect way to experience the benefits of home farming.
HGTV’s “The Gardener Guy,” Paul James, will provide planting tips and demonstrate how anyone can plant their own home farm. A video screen at the event will stream live footage from simultaneous community-based home farm groundbreaking events in Tampa and Los Angeles. Event attendees in all three cities will also have the opportunity to ask Paul James questions about home farming.
This iconic event, in collaboration with the non-profit organization, Urban Farming, will help grow the Triscuit Home Farming Movement and sprout within New Yorkers a deeper appreciation of home farming. Take part in this one-of-a-kind planting experience in the south end of the park. Visitors will learn planting techniques, have the opportunity to plant fresh herbs to take home, and taste Triscuit home farm snacks.
