The Journey is an original stage play written and directed by Shuga Henry, debuting in Jamaica, Queens. The play combines gospel, R&B, hip-hop and soul to tell a story about family, choices and survival for life’s incredible journey.
About the Show
The original Gospel stage play THE JOURNEY was written, produced and directed by Shuga Henry. The play first debuted in February 2008, at Southeastern, Louisiana (SELU), in Hammond, Louisiana.
The story focuses on Yolanda, a teenager from Brooklyn, NY, who loses her family tragically and abruptly moves to North Carolina to live with her estranged Aunt May, affectionately known in the communtiy as Mother Shaw. Yoland struggles to cope with the loss of her amily and living in a strange place.
Mother Shaw, with the help of her friends try desperately to reclaim her life and happiness. However, the journey to recovery grows intensely difficult, spinning out of control, revealing unpleasant truths and testing loyalties and faith. Yolanda is faced wih a decision that will either bring her and Mother Shaw closer together or tear them apart forever.
