KIDS ACTIVITIES

Winter's Eve buzzes with music, activities and FREE entertainment for children of all ages! Be sure to bring the whole family to one of the following locations for a memorable experience!

KiDROCKERS

Kidrockers/Madrockers produces concerts that feature some of the most engaging and vital artists in indie music and comedy. This all-ages show is designed to bring families together to enjoy new music. Artists will perform original (not specifically made for children) songs in a manner that is both authentic and kid-friendly. "We love to hear great new music—and so do our kids," says Kidrockers founder Beth Lorge. "We want to create an opportunity for kids and parents to discover artists and get to see them play live in a fun, safe and comfortable environment."

This year's entertainment will include DJ Craig Baldo, Emcee Seth Herzog, and the following two bands:

The Beets: a Jackson Heights trio that was named one of 8 NYC bands that you need to hear by The L Magazine. The magazine lauded the band’s “effortless take on 60s garage-rock, less of the poppy, Beatles-aping variety that’s typically associated with the era, but more of a rhythmic, plodding variety, with guitars that seem every bit as percussive as the drums, and snotty, joint vocals that are almost chanted more than sung.” A fixture on the NYC DIY scene, the band recently opened for Pavement at Central Park Summerstage.

Twin Shadows: "With an elaborate coiff, '50s threads and an ultra-smooth voice, Twin Shadow's George Lewis Jr. calls to mind a poetic James Dean. He has the style of the rebel but the subtle sensuality of a soulful R&B star." Prefix. "Forget" (Terrible Records), produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, continues to gather momentum and is considered by many to be album of the year. Pop Matters called the record "a near-flawless album and certainly one of the most impressive debuts we’ve ever seen. . . . With a steady gaze fixed on the 1980s, Twin Shadow cherry-picks key elements from the last four decades of popular music and compresses them into something that will likely sound exciting for as long as people continue to listen to music." "All in all, a magnificently accomplished debut." BBC Music.

All audience members can sign up to receive an annual subscription to Time Out New York Kids, get treated to bite-sized cupcakes for kids from Magnolia Bakery and have a chance to win a copy of Yo Gabba Gabba Music is Awesome, Volume 2 featuring Weezer, MGMT, and The Ting Tings.

Location: Kids' Central at the American Bible Society - Broadway at 61st Street
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

11/20/10 + 11/21/10 IckyFest! @ Brooklyn Childrens Museum

Saturday, November 20 + Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 10am to 4pm

Brooklyn Childrens Museum
145 Brooklyn Ave (at St. Marks Ave)
Crown Heights, Brooklyn
(718) 735-4400
Subway: 3 to Kingston Ave
Tickets: $7.50 per person; free admission for members and children under 1 year of age.
(All Icky Fest programs are included with general Museum admission.)
For all ages

Come join in the Icky Fest! Bugs may be icky, but we can’t live without them. Watch some worms, chomp on crickets, examine an owl pellet and more to find out why these icky, sticky critters are so important! Special appearance and meet and greet by Sid the Science Kid! Photos $6!

Boasting a variety of science-based activities, Icky Fest is designed to educate children about naturally occurring events that are usually considered gross, but are important to the cycle of life. During this unique weekend festival, kids become grossologists—scientific experts on all things slimy, yucky, and downright disgusting.

All Icky Fest programs are included with general Museum admission.

Special appearances by SID THE SCIENCE KID™, as featured on Award-winning and Emmy nominated PBS Kids Series will take place on November 20 & 21 from 11:00am–4:00pm. Photos $6!

We attended last year’s IckyFest and highly recommend this event! We saw an awesome science show and got to see creepy hissing giant roaches, hairy spiders and even touched a snake. The museum itself is very interactive. There’s a good neighborhood nature exhibit/science area for kids to explore. Kids love the Brooklyn neighborhood area with mini pizzeria, markets and ethnic stores for the kids to play in. Make sure you visit the museum’s pet snake—a 20-foot long albino Burmese Python named Fantasia!
