Xoregos Performing Company celebrates the Harlem Renaissance in this presentation of four short plays commissioned for this program; poems by writers of that era: Georgia Douglas Johnson, Langston Hughes and others; and music featuring early songs by Duke Ellington, Fats Waller and Irving Berlin.

LENA’S QUILT by Grace Cavalieri
This play portrays a runaway hiding in a Southern quilt-maker’s house. When an official searches for him, the boy finds an unexpected ally.
TELL ME AGAIN by Dave DeChristopher
During the 1920s, several female Harlem Renaissance writers, including Zora Neale Hurston, collected Southern black folk tales. This play is based on these indigenous stories.
