In a special holiday presentation for families, the Metropolitan Opera is once again presenting Richard Jones’s English-language production of Englebert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. It opens on Monday, December 14, at 8 pm with seven subsequent performances on December 17, 19, 21, 24, 28, 30, and January 2.
Miah Persson and Angelika Kirchschlager are featured as the plucky lost siblings, and Philip Langridge reprises his gleeful portrayal of the evil Witch, who fattens up Hansel with a wondrous assortment of frosted pastries. This fanciful version of the popular German fairytale, which has been entertaining youngsters since the 19th century, premiered at the Met in 2007 and is conducted by Andrew Davis.
Tickets range from $20-$150. For tickets call (212) 362-6000 or go to www.metopera.org. Appropriate for children age 5 and up.
