New York’s regional commuter rail network is on track and ready to roll--in miniature--at the New York Transit Museum’s 8th Annual Holiday Train show in Grand Central Terminal next to the Station Master’s Office. For the first time, the MTA’s regional rolling stock of Metro-North, Long Island Rail Road, commuter trains and New York City Subway cars will operate on the same bi-level 34-foot long layout, traveling through a Manhattan cityscape towards Santa’s workshop at the North Pole.
These model railroad commuter and subway cars represent the latest in the growing fleet of MTA-licensed, Lionel manufactured rolling stock complete with illuminated interiors, station announcements, end route destination signs, and doors that open and close. As an added bonus, New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad railcars will also be included in the layout’s rolling stock. Offering a close up look at classic trains, Lionel Trains from the Museum’s Lawrence Scripps Collection of Vintage Trains will also be on static display in Plexiglas cases lining the gallery walls.
