NYC kids from The Paul Green School of Rock perform Woodstock favorites at an outdoor concert in the Ritz Plaza Park as part of the 40th Anniversary Woodstock Celebration.
The History of Woodstock
Nearly 40 years have passed, yet the Woodstock Music Festival of 1969 lives on as one of the greatest of all time. While America was plagued with racial tension and international conflict, Woodstock served as a counterculture: a celebration of peace and love.
Today, Woodstock is regarded as the pinnacle point of the “Hippie Era.” Anti-war protests and ideals of racial equality defined the Woodstock Festival and the the 60’s Generation. An audience of a half million people came to hear the most popular bands and musicians of the era such as The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and The Who. Woodstock, a festival that started as a fundraiser transformed into an event that rocked an entire generation.
