The Beatles Hidden Gallery features more than 30 recently-discovered candid images of the iconic rock group, taken in 1963 and 1964 by British photographer and award-winning cinematographer Paul Berriff. These intimate photographs—shot in England around the time of the group’s first tour of the United States which included two landmark performances at Carnegie Hall—showcase the young band on the cusp of superstardom.

Free public viewing (tickets required) on November 26, December 3, December 10, and December 17, from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Free tickets will be available at the Carnegie Hall Box Office beginning at 10:00am each Saturday.

This Halloween season, Syfy presents a selection of spooky and family friendly events as part of their 31 days of HalloweeNYC. It all kicks off on October 14 and 15 in Flatiron Plaza with the Creepy Crawly Craft Fair. Participants can get into the Halloween spirit with craft- and costume-making activities with local artists and designers. Stop by Union Square Park on October 20 or Washington Square Park on October 21 to get your snapshot taken in the Photo BOO-th. Groups of one to five people can strike a pose in front of a green screen and then choose from several backgrounds. Everyone who participates leaves with their very own Syfy HalloweeNYC photo souvenir. Lastly, Gansevoort Plaza will play host to a face-painting event known as Face Off Face Painting on October 28 and 29 (named after Syfy's television series). Get Closer is a free photography contest held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art. You are invited to submit a photo of one detail in a single work of art from the Met's permanent collection that captures your imagination, along with a photo of the full work of art and your own brief text (approximately 50 words) describing why you find that detail compelling. The contest will take place February 25 through April 8, 2011. The Museum will then select five winners, whose entries will appear on the Met’s website. Each winner will receive a one-year Individual Museum Membership.

Even if you aren’t entering the contest, take a look at the participant’s entries. You may find some artwork that seems familiar or maybe find something new and intriguing enough to search for during your next visit to the museum!
