Summer sunsets over the Hudson River are the backdrop for great blues music. Enjoy styles ranging from traditional Delta and rhythm and blues to rock and jazz with a foundation in the blues. Bring family and friends.
July 1: Blues legend and Grammy winner John Hammond returns to Battery Park City, this time with his band, to perform his versions of Delta classics and selections from his 2010 Grammy-nominated release Rough and Tough, his 33rd album.
July 8: Hazmat Modine creates inventive music with the scratchy soul of an old blues record and the high energy of a brass big band. They keep one foot firmly planted in the blues while conjuring up unusual, celebratory music.
July 15: Bill Sims, Jr., veteran blues singer-songwriter, sings with a warm baritone voice and a journeyman’s command of electric and acoustic guitar. Sims composed the music for August Wilson’s "Seven Guitars" and "Gem of the Ocean" and other plays and movies about American roots music.
July 22: Jim Campilongo creates music that floats from gritty blues rock to country twang and jazz, making a singular original musical sound on his trademark Telecaster.
July 29: The Alexis P. Suter Band, led by a rising star with a bass/baritone voice that beautifully weaves talent and raw emotion into powerful gospel-tinged blues.
