Each It’s My Park Day, thousands of New Yorkers come together to volunteer and celebrate their neighborhood parks at parks and public spaces throughout the five boroughs! Participate in clean up and planting projects, enjoy free events or just get outside to enjoy your park. Supplies are provided for all projects.
This It’s My Park Day will celebrate Partnerships for Parks’ 15th Anniversary, highlighting the dedication and accomplishments of community groups that our program has supported over the years. Here are just a few It’s My Park Day locations– featuring both longtime and new groups – out of the over 150 projects and events happening on the day.
Bronx
St. James Park, 11 am – 3 pm
Volunteers needed to spread wood chips, plant annuals and clear garden beds surrounding the playground and recreation center and to paint retaining walls and lines on handball court. Projects coordinated by the Friends of St. James Park and buildOn. Projects followed by face painting, arts & crafts, board games and refreshments provided by Bronx Recreation.
Location: Meet at the front of the Recreation Center, at 192rd Street and Jerome Avenue.
By Subway: 4 train to Kingsbridge Road. Walk south one block south on Jerome Avenue to park.
Hunts Point Recreation Center, 12 pm – 4 pm
Volunteers need to weed and plant shrubs in planting beds and garden surrounding the recreation center and to clean playground and ball field. Projects followed by arts & crafts, an obstacle course, board and trivia games provided by Bronx Recreation. Projects and events coordinated by Bronx Recreation, Project Hope, Fidelis Care and St. Ignatius High School. At the Hunts Point Recreation Center, City Park Foundation’s, CityParks Productions, will provide several lessons on video production, new media, and creative writing. WBLS 107.5 – Today’s R&B and Classic Soul – will have the WBLS Hummer on site to play music and distribute giveaway items.
Location: Manida Street between Spofford Avenue and Lafayette Street.
By subway: 6 train to Hunts Point Avenue. Walk approximately 4 blocks south on Hunts Point Avenue, crossing the Bruckner Expressway. Make a right on Lafayette Avenue and then the next left onto Manida Street.

Volunteer projects coordinated by the Shore Road Parks Conservancy, Shore Road Garden Council, Narrows Botanical Garden and Friends of Owl’s Head Park. Projects will be in six locations in the park, and times will vary.

Volunteers need for cleaning and raking hillside along 68th Street, cleaning treepits, remove soil from sidewalks and cut edging along walkways, rake and sweep entrance and paths and remove debris.
Location: 68th Street and Narrows Avenue.
By subway: N/R to Bay Ridge Avenue. Walk three blocks west and one block north to park.
Narrows Botanical Garden, 9:30 am – 1:30 pm
Volunteers needed for cleaning and mulching treepits, planting annuals inside park along 68th Street and 72nd Street, cleaning grooming ivy bed near 72nd Street tree allee.
Location: Inside entrance of Shore Road Park near 70th Street.
By subway: N/R to Bay Ridge Avenue. Walk five blocks west to Shore Road and approximately one block south.
81st Street to 83rd Street, 9 am – 1 pm
Volunteers needed for removing debris, cut weeds five feet back from patch and three feet from hilltop, clear drain pits and cut edging along path.
Location: 81st Street and Shore Road Park.
By subway: N/R to 77 Street. Walk five blocks west to Shore Road and four blocks south.
83rd Street to 88th Street, 9 am – 1 pm
Volunteers needed to remove debris, rake hillside, clean fence line, cut back weeds five feet from path, rake and sweep promenade and clean treepits.
Location: 87th Street and Shore Road Park.
By subway: N/R to 86th Street. Walk five blocks west to Shore Road and one block south.
90th Street and Shore Road at the Gazebo, 9 am – 12 pm
Volunteers needed for weeding along fence line, cleaning rosebush area, sweeping and digging out swale and planting 1500 plants along path to the bridge.

Volunteers needed for clean-up and painting benches and lamp poles. Projects followed by fun activities for the whole family! Giant inflatable rides, arts and crafts, cookie art, live DJ music and free food. Projects and events coordinated by the Friends of Kaiser Park. At Kaiser Park’s waterfront, City Park Foundation’s, Coastal Classroom will conduct biodiversity seining using waders, dune exploration, and teach about the marine ecosystem. Families with children at least 4th grade+ and adults welcome.
Location: West 31st Street and Neptune Avenue.
By subway: B, F, N or Q to Coney Island, Stillwell Avenue. Take the B74 to Mermaid Avenue and West 31st Street. Walk one block north to park.
Manhattan
M’Finda Kalunga Garden (Sara D. Roosevelt Park) Volunteers needed for cleaning, painting benches and sandbox, planting annuals and perennials, spreading wood chips and sorting and organizing tool shed. Projects coordinated by M’Finda Kalunga Community Garden – member group of Sara D. Roosevelt Park Coalition, Stanton Street CSA and BRC Seniors. From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., the Urban Park Rangers will provide an informational table and distribute nature related giveaways.
Location: Rivington Street Gate entrance (opposite playground), between Chrystie and Forsythe streets.
By Subway: F/V to Lower East Side – 2nd Avenue. Walk two blocks south to Rivington Street.
Clement Clarke Moore, 10 am – 3 pm
Volunteers needed for planting perennials and annuals in park gardens. Project followed by games, art projects, story teller, magician and more! Project and events coordinated by the West 400th Block Association and Village Community School. Paper flower making and face painting provided by Manhattan Recreation.
Location: Enter park on 10th Avenue, between 21st and 22nd streets.
By Subway: C or E train to 23rd Street. Walk two blocks west and one block south to park.
Frederick Johnson Park, 10 am – 3 pm
Volunteers needed for scraping and painting the Parkhouse, cleaning the playground area and planting in beds along west side of park. Projects coordinated by the Fred Johnson Park Association and the Jungle Tennis Players Association. From 12pm to 2pm, City Parks Foundation will provide free tennis lessons.
Location: Enter park at 150th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.
By Subway: 3 train to 148th Street. Walk north two blocks on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard to park.
Queens
Astoria Park, 9 am to 2 pm
Volunteers needed for clean up on the shoreline and within the park and for planting projects. There will be information tables and educational activities throughout the day. Projects and activities coordinated by Green Shores NYC, Astoria Park Alliance, American MidEast Leadership Network, Long Island Community Boathouse, Global Kids Inc, Bryant High School, Forest Hills High School, Bard High School Early College, International High School, Boy Scouts and Queens Harvest food Co-op. At 12pm, Puppeteers from City Parks Foundation’s Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater will lead a puppet making workshop. This will be followed by a 1pm performance of Sleeping Beauty.
Location: World War II Memorial in park, along Shore Boulevard, near Astoria Pool.
By Subway: N/W to Ditmars Boulevard. Walk 10 blocks west to Shore Boulevard, walk south to World War II Memorial.
Highland Park, 10 am – 2 pm
Volunteers needed for weeding and clearing of pedestrian paths in garden. Project followed by a free picnic lunch in the garden. Projects and luncheon, also known as the “Weed and Feed” are coordinated by the Highland Park Garden Club and Highland Park Tennis Association.
Location: Highland Park Children’s Garden on Jamaica Avenue, between Ashford and Warwick streets.
By Subway: J to Cleaveland Street. Walk one block west to Warwick Street and two blocks north to Jamaica Avenue.
Staten Island
New Dorp Beach, 9 am – 12 pm
Volunteers needed for cleaning beach and shoreline. During the project, volunteers will learn about the local coastal ecosystem, the harmful impact various types of debris has on the marine environment and the importance of waterfront access. Volunteer projects and educational activities coordinated by NRPA (Natural Resources Protective Association) and the NRPA Youth Environmental Group. Games, arts & crafts and a Hula Hoop contest provided by Staten Island Recreation. Light refreshments will be served. From 10am to 12pm, the Urban Park Rangers will provide an informational table and distribute nature related giveaways.
Location: The foot of New Dorp Lane at coastline.
